Which is better for your caravan or lodge decking? Wood or UPVC?

You could choose wood. But wood needs care — and lots of it. It’s impossible to keep wood well-maintained if you only visit your caravan occasionally, and even if you live in it, it doesn’t matter how much tlc you give it; eventually, the timber will succumb to rot, warping, mould or algae.

Plastic decking boards, on the other hand, are rot, mould and algae resistant, which means you’re far less likely to slip or trip on them. They don’t warp. They don’t require protection and only need minimal cleaning to stay looking pristine. You don’t get splinters from UPVC decking either, which means it’s safer for children, for pets, and for you.

Can You Install UPVC Decking Around Your Caravan?

Do you need permission to install plastic caravan decking in the UK? Are there limits on designs, colours or materials? And what other considerations are there?

Most caravan parks will require you to get permission for your decking from park management. Some may not allow you to add a deck at all, so always check your pitch licence agreement before you make any commitments.

Your licence agreement may also set out conditions for the size of your UPVC caravan decking. Some may have restrictions in terms of colour and finish.
